CSI Miami

CSI: Miami was the first spin-off of the successful American crime drama television series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (the second one being CSI: New York). It premiered on May 9, 2002 with the episode “Cross-Jurisdictions”. Six seasons have been aired so far and CBS renewed the show for a seventh season, which started airing September 22, 2008. According to a survey conduced by Informa Telecoms and Media in 2005, CSI: Miami was the most popular programme in the world.

Set in the county of Miami-Dade, CSI: Miami follows the investigations carried out by a team of forensic scientists. Even if the focus of the original series was maintained in the spin-off, CSI: Miami gives more space to action. Moreover, from season three onward, the classic two-cases-per-episode structure (used by both of its sister shows) was replaced by a more dynamic one either having only one case per episode, or a case which branched off from the main case.

Miami is the only one out the three CSIs to have crossed over with both CSI and CSI: NY. “Cross-Jurisdictions” was an episode of the second season of the original CSI and the one from which CSI: Miami spun off. CSI: Miami also crossed with CSI: NY on three different episodes: “MIA/NYC NonStop” (Miami 2×23 and NY premiere), “Felony Flight” (Miami 4×07) and “Manhattan Manhunt” (NY 2×07).
