Chrono Cross

Chrono Cross is a RPG made by Square (now Square-Enix) for the Sony PlayStation and sequel to the SNES game Chrono Trigger. It was released in Japan on November 18, 1999 and in the U.S. on August 15, 2000.

The story of Chrono Cross deals with the theme of parallel words. The main protagonist, Serge, has to face an alternate reality in which he has died as a child. Serge sets out to discover the truth about the two worlds’ divergence. During his travels around the archipelago El Nido, he meets the thief Kid, the jester Harle, the half-human half-felin Lynx and many other characters.

Harle

Harlequin, or Harle for short, speaks English with a French accents and, as her name suggests, wears the costume of a jester. She is a really tough girl and enjoys to tease and pick on everyone (Serge excluded).

Despite her outgoing behaviour, Harle is actually one of the most enigmatic characters from Chrono Cross. During the game she frequently changes sides: she first works for Serge’s number one enemy (Lynx), then she is good, and then she is bad again.

Unlike your average villain, Harle was born into a sort of slavery. She was forced to do a duty and even if she was willing to accept her fate, she certainly did not want to. Obviously falling in love with Serge did not make things easy for her, for he was the one she had to stop.
