The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Nightmare Before Christmas is a 1993 animated film directed by Henry Selick and produced by Tim Burton. The story is based on a poetry written and illustrated by Burton himself when he worked for Disney.
The film was highly successful, it was especially praised for the original storyline, Danny Elfman’s creative musical score and the use of stop-motion animation. Since The Nightmare Before Christmas was the first film to use stop-motion at this scale, the crew often had to improvise solutions to problems encountered during production. Creating the film was a process that lasted three years, but the hard work paid off and Burton used again the stop-motion technique in many of his future films.
The Nightmare Before Christmas is set in a holiday-themed world, which contrasts the gloomy Halloween Town with the happy Christmas Town. Jack Skellington, after many years spent at organizing Halloween, becomes bored and is no longer inspired. One night he accidentally discovers a door that leads him to Christmas Town. After the visit, an enthusiastic Jack comes back to his home town with many ideas on how to create Christmas. However, combining the two holidays will bring more troubles than happiness.
Jack & Sally
The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favourite animated film and the romance between Jack and Sally underlying it is really touching. Jack Skellington is depressed as another Halloween passes by, but the only one who notices his sadness is the rag-doll Sally. Eventually Jack will understand that what he needs to fill his void and get its creativity back is love, which he finds in Sally.
