Listing all the criminals Light killed after acquiring the Death Note would be impossible. Victims’ names aren’t always revealed and it happens more than once that only the number of victims killed in a certain “Kira-spree” is told. Yet, some people killed by Light (or his accomplishers) stand out from the rest so here is a list of those very important victims.
Please note: unless specified differently, Kira refers to the first Kira; Light Yagami. Also, if there is a high number of victims coming from the same “Kira-spree” they are grouped together in one entry instead of being split into many.
Kurou Otoharada – 音原田 九郎
Cause of death: heart attack
Crime(s): murder, kidnapping
Killed by: Kira
Reason: Light doesn’t know whether to believe what is written in the Death Note or not. When trying to come up with the right victim he turns on the TV and hears in the news about an unemployed man who the day before killed six people in Shinjuko and is now barricaded in a nursing school keeping under hostage eight children and some daycare workers. At first nothing happen then, suddenly, the correspondent announces that the hostages are coming out and when he mentions that Otoharada “suddenly collapsed” Light begins to believe that the notebook is real.
Takuo Shibuimaru – 渋井丸 拓男
Cause of death: accident
Crime(s): harasser1
Killed by: Kira
Reason: Light is on his way home when he notices Takou’s group of riders harassing a girl. He enters a nearby library and writes Takou’s name in all the possible Kanji combinations. In the meanwhile the girl manages to get away from the riders group so Takou begins to chase her, but his motorcycle is hit by a truck shortly after. Light’s reaction gives away that the cause of death he had chosen was by accident, also Takou’s death completely confirms that the Death Note is real.
Lind L. Tailor
Cause of death: heart attack
Crime(s): none2
Killed by: Kira
Reason: on a TV broadcast Lind L. Tailor tells Kira that an investigation is going on and that he will be caught for his crimes. Light therefore writes his name on the Death Note and the man dies, but immediately after his death it is revealed by the real L that everything was a set up to gain information about Kira.
- In the manga Shibuimaru only harasses the girl, while in the anime he and his group try to sexually assault her. [↩]
- Technically the guy posing as L was sentenced to death and he was going to be executed that very same day so he did commit crimes. Light however does not discover this until the poser is dead. [↩]
