Why Rydia

I played most of the games in the Final Fantasy saga and I usually find myself more interested in male characters rather than females. I don’t have anything against girls in general (heck, I’m a girl myself :P), but many female characters seem to suffer from the damsel in distress syndrome. Too weak to save themselves on their own, they need a knight in shining armour to come and rescue them.

Rydia instead is a nice exception. While she is not struggle-free and, even as an adult, has her “blue moments” Rydia is not a girl who sits back and waits for a white knight to solve all the problems of the world. Albeit she may be insecure, she doesn’t let her emotions take control of her. Rydia is never depressed for too long, she comes back more determined than before and always finds the strength to go forward.
