• 主 (シュ) means: lord, chief, master, main thing, principal
• 因 (イン) means: cause, factor, be associated with, depend on, be limited to

Shuyin’s name perfectly fit his role in the game. Being the game’s main antagonist, he is the principal element of the story. He is the cause of everything wrong that happens, the person behind the chaos that’s spreading on Spira. Without Shuyin, Yu-Ri-Pa’s mission wouldn’t exist – even if it starts as Yuna’s quest for Tidus, it later became more about stopping Shuyin’s plan.
