Tragedy
If Shuyin didn’t agree with Lenne’s intention to sacrifice herself for the greater good, she didn’t agree with his plan to use Bevelle’s hidden weapon. Thanks to one dialogue with Maechen, we know that Vegnagun, Bevelle’s coveted weapon, was never used at Shuyin’s time nor later. That because it was extremely powerful and for this very precise reason Lenne didn’t want Shuyin to use it. For Vegnagun would have not only annihilated Bevelle, but the whole Spira.
But Shuyin was stubborn, he believed that Vegnagun was the only way to save Lenne. He went to Bevelle and managed to sneak into the chamber where the machine was kept. His first attempt was almost a success: he mounted on Vegnagun and was about to use it…when soldiers arrived and caught him. After being arrested, Shuyin was placed in Bevelle’s Underground prison.
A spy from Zanarkand told Lenne that Shuyin had been seen around their rival city, she intuited that he was firm about carrying out his plan. While Lenne went after him and infiltrated in Bevelle, Shuyin, somehow, broke out from the prison.
He re-made his way back to Vegnagun and was ready to use it when Lenne called him from the lower deck of the room. She had her arms spread out, asking him to stop. He looked down to her, almost as he wanted to say he had no other option. She was going to speak again when she heard something and turned around, just as he noticed that a group of soldiers entered the chamber. They were armed with rifles, aiming at them.
Shuyin ran down to Lenne’s side, wrapping his arms around her. He glared at guards with such hate, then turned to Lenne. Shuyin didn’t speak, but the expression on his face appeared to say “I’m sorry Lenne, I failed you”. Lenne cried at first, but a moment later she was smiling, she was accepting their fate.
They both looked at the soldiers as they prepared to shoot and still embraced each other as the rifles fired.
