Throughout the game Zell wears three different outfits. The first one (the normal outfit) is the one he wears the most, while the other two are worn only on special occasions. The garden outfit is the uniform Zell wears upon being introduced to the player (before the beginning of the Dollet mission), and the SeeD outfit is worn during the graduation party, after Zell has passed his SeeD exam.
Normal outfit
In the everyday outfit there is a black, cropped jacket with a red border on the back. On the sleeve there is a blue sign, something like a flame which recalls his facial tattoo. Under the jacket there is a normal black t-shirt. The trousers, a sort of cargo jeans, are blue and have a pocket on each side. They fall right below the knees and are held up by a black belt with a silver buckle. Zell’s shoes are black and red, probably a type of hi-tops/basketball-like pair.
The only accessory that comes with this outfit are the gloves (of course, being Zell’s weapons xD). The colour changes with the model: black with silver studs for Maverick, black and silver for Gauntlet and finally black, red, violet and silver for Ehrgeiz.
Garden outfit
This outfit consists of a dark blue jacket matched with a pair of trousers of the same colour and a white under shirt.
The jacket has a sort of mandarin collar. On the shoulders there are two big panels of silver embroidery; all the design is done in swirls and whorls. There are two breast pockets going in a broken v pattern, the pockets tilt up as the slits go to the shoulders. Gray slits drop down from these pockets. The jacket is zipped while the sleeves are rolled up just below Zell’s elbows, probably a way to customise the uniform considering that SeeDs normally wear the long sleeves. An emblem of Balamb Garden can be found on the right upper arm.
The pants have pockets on the two sides and they are held up with a belt that seems to be black. As with the previous outfit, as accessory there are only the gloves.
SeeD outfit
Definitely the most formal and elegant outfit Zell happens to wear in the whole game. This outfit is very similar to those worn by actual soldiers.
The jacket has a collar, which is cut in two triangles on the back. The jacket also has a gold trim along sleeves and edges, such as the collar’s border or the jacket’s zipper. On the front side there is a big silver chain with two buckles bearing Balamb Garden’s emblem. These buckles connects the two sides of the mandarin collar. There are two belts, both black: the cross body belt connects with the second belt, which is a waist belt.
The pants are of the same colour and material of the jacket, they are a bit baggy and they tuck into tall, black leather boots. This is the only outfit in which Zell doesn’t wear gloves.
